Sen. Connelly responds to budget plan
State Senator Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) releases the below statement following the House and Senate passing a budget plan, which includes a major tax increase:
“Under the budget plan that passed today, families and businesses will be paying more in taxes and getting nothing in return. The income tax will raise by 32% but nothing has been done to reduce property taxes, overhaul our uncompetitive workers' compensation system, or address our $130 billion pension debt. This plan will not attract new people or businesses to our state.
“I know that we all want this budget impasse to end, but I could not vote for a plan that is detrimental to taxpayers and repeats past mistakes. We must address the underlying issues hurting our state before we ask taxpayers for a penny more.
“I'm extremely disappointed in how this ended but I remain committed to working to make Illinois competitive, strong and a place we can all be proud to call home.”
