Sen. Connelly provides statement following General Assembly adjournment

State Senator Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) releases the following statement after the General Assembly ends its spring legislative session:

“Once again, the General Assembly ends its spring legislative session without passing a true balanced budget. Throughout the past 6 months, Senate Republicans worked to find common ground on a budget solution that included reforms that would cap government spending and provide job creators with a reason to bring jobs to Illinois. Unfortunately, that work was cast aside by the Senate Majority as they went back to their failed playbook of higher taxes on the already over-taxed residents of Illinois without reforms.

“Their go-it-alone approach lead to a budget plan that was unbalanced, included major tax increases, and contained a bailout for Chicago Public Schools, a watered-down workers’ compensation reform measure, and no meaningful property tax relief.

“If we are to fix this budget impasse, it’s necessary that we come back to the table and work to reach the compromise that we were so close to achieving this spring. There is still time to get this done before July 1.”
