Benet Academy students visit the Capitol
A group of high school students from Benet Academy made the trip down to Springfield this week for the final part of State Senator Michael Connelly’s Student Advisory Council. The goal of the program is to get young people engaged and involved in public service and the legislative process.
During their time in Springfield, students toured the Capitol, met with several legislators, and got to experience Senate Floor action first-hand.
Photos from the program can be found in Sen. Connelly’s Youth Advisory Council Photo Gallery.
Senator Connelly hopes to expand the Youth Advisory Council this fall. It will consist of two to three outstanding students per high school within my Senate District. The chosen students will meet with me and Senate staff bi-annually – once in the fall at a location in my district to brainstorm and discuss issues that are important to today’s youth, and once in the spring in Springfield to experience the legislative process at the State Capitol.
